The MAGA HAGA

The Agana Public Library is located on one of the busiest roadsides in Guam. This large project goes up to 30 feet tall and 75 feet long. The preliminary design process took a while, as the director wanted the mural to stand out and attract people.

The mural depicts the "maga haga" (female leader) story-teller signifying CHamoru's matriarchal society, reading to a diverse group of children. The banyan tree behind her represents the growth of the CHamoru culture through story-telling. The "Tree of Knowledge" is on the far left, with a bookshelf as its trunk. Progressing to the middle of the mural is a trail of leaves forming into books and going to the maga haga. However, one book moves off course, wildly opening and releasing CHamoru stories like "Fish that Ate Guam" and "The Boy Who Jumped to Rota."

Eventually, these stories would go back to the children through other means of communication.  The male with the conch shell is the "maga lahi" (male leader), calling everyone to sit in front of the maga haga for story-telling.

Despite the weather conditions and limited lift use, this mural took nine days to complete. This was an expensive mural to complete.

Bubbly Tea Cafe

Bubbly tea cafe

Bubbly Tea Cafe is located in Tamuning, across from Guam Premium Outlets.  Three weeks before its opening, the owner requested a series of designs for a mural on the main wall of the cafe. The final design took a week to complete, but the mural only took three days. With its growing popularity, the mural officially became a "Pokestop" for the mobile game app, "Pokemon Go."

Evolution of Guam

This triptych mural can be found at the University of Guam, College of Business Administration.  The university was looking to fill the entire atrium walls with artworks from local artists. The theme had to relate to Guam. This triptych shows Guam's progression in time. The first panel illustrated the cultural livelihood of the ancient CHamorus.  The middle panel shows a transition from the Spaniards taking over Guam to the United States claiming it. The last panel shows Guam's growth in its economy through tourism.  The panels took one week to complete.

The restaurant is located in the old "Hakubotan" building, across "Copy Express" in Tamuning. It was also the former "Seafood Chef" restaurant. Under new management, the inner walls of the restaurant had a barbeque, grilled meat buffet theme. One of the owners spearheaded the mural project to depict a gorilla barbequing at the beach. Outside the banquet room walls were designed with a cobblestone pattern, while its door appeared to be wooden-medieval style doors to act as the gorilla's castle for important guests.  This project took approximately three weeks to complete.
